Bye Bye Blackbird
From the “Only The Best” album
Tony MedleyReleased: September 18, 2026
Bye Bye Blackbird arrives where Tony Medley’s pre-album campaign becomes more reflective. Written by Ray Henderson and Mort Dixon in 1926, the song first became a major hit through Gene Austin’s chart-topping recording, before later generations of jazz musicians made it a standard in their own right. Beneath its familiar melody lies a song about departure, leaving cares behind and moving towards the promise of somewhere, or someone, that feels more like home. Tony’s interpretation sits between melancholy and optimism. There is weight in what is being left behind, but no sense of defeat. As the final single before Only The Best, it gives the campaign a cinematic change of pace and leaves the album approaching on a note of movement, anticipation and quietly renewed hope.
