Faith Supreme

Faith Supreme are a 24-member Philadelphia gospel-soul choir bringing the power of Black church music together with the elegance, harmony and orchestral warmth of their city's soul tradition.

About

Faith Supreme are a 24-member gospel-soul choir from Philadelphia, bringing together the emotional force of Black church music and the sophistication of the city’s soul tradition.

Built around six sopranos, six altos, six tenors and six baritones, the multigenerational ensemble has both brilliance and weight: soaring upper voices, rich harmony and a dedicated baritone section that gives the choir unusual warmth and depth.

Musical director Jerome Whitaker shapes that sound through arrangements that move between gospel piano and Hammond organ, Philadelphia-style strings and horns, electric piano, melodic bass and live drums. The choir’s eight principal voices add further range, moving naturally from intimate testimony and quiet-storm soul to joyful soprano fire, gritty tenor leads and grounded baritone authority.

That versatility allows Faith Supreme to draw from 1970s gospel soul, Philadelphia soul, funk, quiet-storm gospel, traditional hymns and the scale of 1990s mass choirs without losing their identity.

At their most powerful, one voice becomes a section, a section becomes the choir, and the choir becomes something larger than any one singer. Faith Supreme are not simply a choir behind a soloist. Faith Supreme are the artist.
