About
The Adulations bring the grandeur, romance and emotional urgency of early-1970s Philadelphia soul.
At the centre of the five-man group is Isaiah St. James, a commanding baritone vocalist whose voice carries masculine warmth, controlled rasp and the kind of emotional force that can turn a private confession into a full-room declaration. Around him, Leon Mercer, Ellis Monroe, Raymond Cole and Calvin Brooks create a layered vocal architecture of bright tenor lift, warm inner harmony, rhythmic tension and grounded baritone weight.
Their sound is rich without becoming excessive: melodic bass guitar, warm electric piano, clipped guitar, precise drums, restrained horns and sweeping strings arranged around close male harmonies. Verses often begin with Isaiah alone or nearly alone, before the other four voices gather around him, answering, reinforcing and eventually transforming one man’s emotion into a collective promise.
The Adulations sing about love as something serious. Their songs explore desire, commitment, loyalty, pride, vulnerability, betrayal and reconciliation, always from an adult emotional perspective. They are capable of tenderness, but never timidity; heartbreak, but never helplessness; sensuality, but never empty display.
Visually, the group belongs to a world of oxblood tailoring, champagne satin, burgundy velvet, polished wood and warm amber theatre light. Each member has a distinct presence, but together they move with the discipline and unity of a group built to share one stage and one emotional purpose.
Within WMG, The Adulations represent the grander and more commanding side of classic male soul: five voices, one devotion, and love sung with the conviction that some feelings are too important to be understated.

There comes a point when waiting becomes more painful than leaving. “If You Don’t Want My Love” finds The Adulations facing that moment with honesty and hard-earned resolve. The singer has offered his affection, his patience and his time, but he can no longer remain trapped between hope and rejection. He needs the woman he loves to make a choice. If she wants the relationship, she must meet him fully. If she does not, he is prepared to accept the truth and reclaim his dignity. The emotional power of the song comes from its restraint. This is not an angry confrontation or an attempt to force somebody to stay. It is a clear boundary drawn by a man who understands that love cannot survive indefinitely without commitment. Taken from The Adulations’ self-titled debut album, “If You Don’t Want My Love” pairs romantic vulnerability with quiet strength, turning a painful decision into an act of self-respect.
